Project languages
Write and translate projects in several languages and switch language during operation.
2 min read
Write project texts in several languages and change the language shown to the operator during execution. The Studio interface language, project editing language and runtime language are independent.
Configure languages
In Project → Project settings, declare the languages, default language and initial language source. Codes may include variants such as en-GB.
The selector in Studio's top bar chooses the editing language. Inspectors and the canvas show that version; editing it preserves the other translations and does not change the language of an open runtime.
Write and translate
Project → Project texts shows one column per language. Use Untranslated to find missing texts, or edit each text in its inspector with the required language selected.
Translate labels, titles, alarm messages, text lists, visual states, descriptions, and axis and curve titles. Identifiers, variable names, units and data received from the PLC retain their values.
- Export texts as UTF-8 CSV to translate them in a table editor.
- Keep the
pathcolumn, language names and their order when importing. - You may import selected rows. The file is validated before changes are applied.
- Edit linked or standard library texts in their source library, or copy the object into the project first.
Review project reports missing translations. Missing or empty translations fall back to the default language.
Switch during operation
Use the runtime selector or a button with the Change language action. All windows, popups and containers share the selection. Switching updates texts without restarting acquisition, closing windows or rerunning opening scripts.
Current and historical alarms use the selected language; search and CSV export use the same text. Changing language does not change process signals or commands.
Choose the initial language
| Source | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Project | Uses the default language |
| Station | Restores the choice for this project on this computer |
| User | Starts with the station choice, then applies the user's preference on login |
Set an account preference in Users and roles → Accounts → Language…. An empty or undeclared user preference keeps the current language. A missing or invalid station choice falls back to the default language.
Try the examples
The examples include Spanish and English. The brewery provides ES and EN buttons for switching during operation.
See Runtime to operate the project and Project format for JSON fields and the button action.
